What a shocker: Dan Snyder is trying to save his own skin once again. Dan Snyder must be really nervous this time as the US attorney general’s office of the Eastern District of Virginia has announced they have opened a criminal investigation into the owner.
How the tides have turned on Dan Snyder. Only a few months ago, he had all of the NFL owners by their throats as it was reported he possessed damning dossiers and reports on each of the 32 businessmen, which all but assured they could not vote him out of the league without jeopardizing their own reputations.
Yet, just like the seasons come and go, Dan Snyder’s ‘protection’ has vanished with the last days of summer as now the US Federal government is after him, which all but makes his sale of the Commanders inevitable as it could be the only thing that keeps him from prison.
It’s pretty funny how quickly these developments have occurred. Only a few hours after Snyder announced his hire of Bank of America, the US Attorney’s Office of the Eastern District of Virginia (whew, that’s a mouthful) released the groundbreaking news that it was formally launching a criminal investigation into the business practices of Dan Snyder and his regime. Finally, Dan Snyder is going to be held accountable.
Supposedly, the investigation is looking into Synder’s handling of the Commanders ticket sale revenues and his regime potentially withholding security deposits money from its own fans. Or, more specifically, this investigating is looking into how Snyder hid the actual revenues from the NFL and hoarded the security deposit money from the hardworking fans of the Commanders.
Now, of course, it’s way too early to definitely say that Dan Synder and his cronies are guilty of not only defrauding the NFL, but also his and the Commanders very fans.
Simply put, it’s probably going to take years for any real evidence or prosecution case (if there is sufficient enough evidence) to be made against Snyder, and that may not even happen with the news of Snyder selling the team.
If Snyder is able to sell the Commanders as fast as possible and for as much money as possible, then his transgressions and wrongdoings might be forgotten and settled without any real consequences as the NFL owners and the Washington fans might push the thought of Snyder as far out of their minds as possible. Essentially, Synder looks to be banking on the old saying “out of sight out of mind” as his get-out-of-jail free card. Literally.
Just like how the buzz around Robert Sarver, the disgraced (soon to be ex) owner of the Phoenix Suns, has died down as he agreed to sell the team, I fear the say will happen with Synder. Though, I must say that Sarver was never accused of defrauding his other NBA owners, the NBA itself, and the fans of the Phoenix Suns, so maybe Synder’s problems won’t escape him as he believes they will with the sale.
Regardless, this is still a great day for the NFL and the Washinton Commanders fans as it is the first step on a path that will eventually lead to them reclaiming their historic franchise and bringing about the downfall of Synder and his cronies.
The Pariah of the NFL’s time is coming to an end.
