The Glazers are so consistently incompetent that they even delay and screw up their own buyout negotiations. Despite being up for sale for the better part of 4 months, the Glazers have yet to even agree on a single bidding party to buy them out of Man United.
This is why The Glazers are one of the worst and most incompetent ownership groups in all of the Premier League.
Even when they make it perfectly clear they wish to sell Manchester United and all things related to the club, their blinding greed and crippling incompetence has postponed and delayed the sale of the club from the hands of perspective buyers.
It would be one thing if The Glazers were getting lowballed for Man United, but these pair of fools, Avram and Joel Glazer, are asking north of $6B for the team, which would double the return Roman Abramovich received (well, he didn’t actually get a cent of that money) when he sold Chelsea to Todd Boehly for $3B back in late May of 2022!
Of course, Man United is far more historic and successful than Chelsea, but is any sports team in the world truly worth $6B? I’m not so sure.
Now, I’ve already written an article detailing how I’m extremely hesitant about United’s prospective buyers, Sheikh Jassim representing the Qatari Bid and Sir Jim Ratcliffe representing the INEOS Bid, taking control over the club, but drawing the process out this long is getting ridiculous.
Chelsea was sold in under three months to Todd Boehly and his $3B bid, and those circumstances were far more complicated due to Abramovich’s connections to the Russian government and the fighting in Ukraine.
Not only is drawing out this process disrespectful for both the fans and the prospective buyers, but it also places all of United’s future plans/contract renewals in limbo as key players, including Marcus Rashford, are out of a contract come the summer. By not coming to a compromise on a fair price for the club (as both buyers also think $6B is far too high of an asking price), The Glazers are once again putting their priorities ahead of what’s best for the club and the fans.
Though, that really shouldn’t be too much of a surprise as The Glazers have fattened their pocketbooks off the back of United for the better part of the last decade, even though the club has endured its worst spell in form in over 30 years. Asking The Glazers to be considerate, respectful owners is tantamount to asking them to run a football club efficiently, so I won’t even start with that.
No, instead, I (along with millions of other United fans) am now asking for The Glazers to simply get their acts together, decide whether or not they want to sell the club, and to not be the greediest owners in all of the world and come down to a more reasonable price.
I’ve heard rumors that the latest offers from both bids have been valued at more than $4.75B, so I think coming down to $5B or $5.5B is more than reasonable for The Glazers. I mean, it’s not like they are desperate for money and will be starving on the streets if they only make $5B from the sale of the club.
Anyway, I just hope this sale is resolved in one way or another in the coming months as United’s very future hangs in the balance.
