She-Hulk Might Be The Whackiest Marvel Show Yet

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’s trailer reveal at Comic-Con was everything I expected it to be. A silly, self-depreciating, fourth-wall breaking show that throws caution to the wind in the name of comedy. Will it translate well? Hopefully, because this show definitely has some promise.

To be honest, I didn’t even know this show was in production until I saw its trailer released online during Marvel’s panel at San Diego’s 2022 Comic-Con. I hadn’t heard anything about a “She-Hulk” show in development, though I can say the same for the majority of Marvel’s lineup for Phase 5.

Besides Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever (which is actually still Phase 4) and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, I really haven’t heard any “hype” online around of the new shows and movies Marvel plans to release over the next 2-4 years. Maybe it’s due to the lack of “notable superheroes” (ex: Ironman, Captain America, Black Widow) attached to the projects, or just superhero burnout, but there has been a notable “coolness” to the new projects.

It still amazes me how Marvel has so much material for dozens of new shows and movies each year. That just goes to show how much work and effort Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, Martin Goodman and all the rest of the past and present comic writers put into expanding the Marvel comic universe. They truly are the unsung heroes in all of Disney’s success.

Anyway, back to She-Hulk, I still believe that this show could work. Obviously, it is going to have a gimmicky style humor that will turn some audiences away from the show. Essentially, this should end up being the female-hulk version of Deadpool if everything goes right. Just far less gory and X-rated.

The combination and chemistry of Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk) and Tatiana Maslany (Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk) looked really good in the Comic-Con trailer, so that should be a huge selling point for the show. Plus, the Deadpool-esque aspect of Jennifer Walter/She-Hulk hopefully is as creative and funny as it is in Deadpool.

My only concern for this show is that I fear the Deadpool-aspect won’t be relied upon as much as it should be, which would ruin the fun and uniqueness of Jennier Walters/She-Hulk’s character. Oh, and if they overpower her too quickly. The first half of this show should be spent with Jennifer Walters mastering her abilities with Bruce Banner’s help. If she ends up just being another Hulk or worse, an over-powered Hulk too quickly, then this show will be doomed.

However, I don’t think that will happen. I believe that She-Hulk will end up being another great addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
