Amazon and the Rings of Power producers have done what?!? Yes, apparently, the Amazon and Rings of Power Producers have ghosted the legendary Peter Jackson back in 2018 after asking him to get involved in the project.
What was Amazon and the Rings of Power thinking? You can’t ghost Peter Jackson, especially after ASKING HIM to be involved in the Rings of Power project.
His insight and experience in the world Tolkien created is second to none with anyone alive today (as JRR and Christopher Tolkien have now, sadly, passed on) with SIX Middle Earth inspired movies under his belt. It is true that the final two Hobbit movies really wasn’t his best work, nor are they worthy successors to the Lord of The Rings movies, but that was more the studios’ fault than Jackson. For the Lord of The Rings, Jackson had over two years to pre-plan for those three movies.
For the Hobbit trilogy, he had less than six months. Clearly, Jackson was set up to fail from the start for the Hobbit, but his expertise still could have been invaluable for Rings of Power.
However, why did Amazon ask him in the first place? Isn’t the whole point of this new series to distance themselves from the Lord of The Rings movies?
That is what I’ve been hearing all this time. And that is explicitly what the showrunners JD Payne and Patrick McCay said at the 2022 Comic-Con. They wanted these movies to standalone and be its own sperate entity from the Jackson movies.
Yet, by asking Jackson to be a part of the series really early on, it shows that the showrunners and producers may not have been transparent with us. Sure, I understand getting some advice and early inspiration from Jackson and his movies really early on in the project’s development, but Jackson states that the producers promised to send him episode scripts. That was the only way he would promise to get involved in the show.
Now, I’m not a movie producer aficionado, but I find it hard to believe that Jackson would not have been heavily involved in working on the scripts if they actually sent them to him. Why else would they have wanted him to see the scripts?
Nevertheless, the Amazon producers either realized that it was silly to involve Jackson in this T.V. show, or they simply just forgot about Jackson’ request. Anyway, it still looks like the Amazon and Rings of Power producers lied to the fans about their interest in Jackson and his movies. And that is not a great look, especially with how they have handled the marketing and promotion of this show.
