NFL Drug Testing Just Never Lets Up…Even When Their Athletes Play Different Sports

Can’t a man just have fun at another sports’ all-star game? After putting up an MVP performance at the NBA Celebrity All-Star game, DK Metcalf posted that the NFL Health And Safety office has contacted him about getting drug tested, even though it’s the offseason.

We all know that DK Metcalf is a freak of nature, but does his extraordinary athleticism have to be scrutinized with a “coincidental” drug test after a celebrity charity game in the NFL’s offseason, no less?

I mean, this really shouldn’t come as a surprise as he not only was one of the NFL’s best wide receivers with the Seattle Seahawks in the league last season with 90 REC, 1,048 yards, and 6 TDs, but he also has competed in official US Track and Field 100M event against professional sprinters.

And he still had a competitive race as he finished with a 10.36 time, which ended up being just 0.24 tenths of a second behind the winning professional racer.

He’s simply one of the greatest athletes the NFL has ever seen, and he displayed that again yesterday.

I’m not sure how many of you decided to watch the NBA’s Celebrity All-Star game, which was one of the best celebrity-esque games I’ve ever seen, but the only important thing to know is that DK Metcalf absolutely balled out.

As one of the few athletes participating in the celebrity game, Metcalf was one of the key “stars” on Team Dwayne (Dwayne Wade was the captain) as he led all participants with 20 PTS, 10 REB, and 3 BLKS in his team’s 81-78 win over Team Ryan (Ryan Smith was the captain).

He truly showed off his fantastic athleticism as he was leaping up for dunks, blocking shots left and right, sliding passes through defenses with pinpoint accuracy, and got to the rim as swiftly as an actual NBA player. In what should have been one of the more boring aspects of the NBA All-Star weekend, DK Metcalf helped turn this game into an extremely entertaining watch.

So, what was his reward for such a great display? A “coincidental” drug test by the NFL.

Yes, even though the NFL season ended a week ago, while the Seahawks season ended on January 14th, the NFL coincidentally had scheduled a drug test for DK Metcalf during the NBA All-Star weekend, even though they must have known he was participating. Is it just me or is that slightly petty?

I know the NFL has been randomly testing players all throughout the offseason, but does the league seriously expect me to believe that they scheduled this drug test a day after DK Metcalf was supposed to appear at a celebrity all-star event? Obviously, they are trying to catch players out when they least expect it and ban them for the first four weeks or so of the next NFL season.

Now, I get that’s the NFL Health and Safety department’s job, but doing it to a player that is bringing the NFL more attention and renown is a low blow in my eyes.

Still, I’m glad DK went off and showed the whole NBA community that he is one of the best athletes in the world, let alone just the NBA.
