I hate that I have to write this article, but you can’t speak up on one thing and not another of the same class. Aaron Rodgers has been in the headlines for the most random and crazy story I think I’ve ever seen as he’s seriously being considered to be a Vice President candidate in the US election!
I just don’t even know how this story is possible.
Despite (rightly) proclaiming the Jets need to keep out distracting noise and focus on winning, Aaron Rodgers has been in the news for anything but his recovery and the Jets for he’s credibly being considered a Vice President candidate for a major political figure in the upcoming US Presidential election. And, as I said, I hate that I have to write this article, but Aaron Rodgers is being a huge hypocrite.
So, where do I even begin with this story?
If you somehow have not heard the news surrounding Aaron Rodgers of late, the Jets star quarterback has been in serious contention to be the official Vice President nominee for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s independent presidential campaign in the upcoming US Presidential Election. I’m not making this up. Aaron Rodgers might really be campaigning for the vice presidency’s office on Monday-Saturdays, and then slinging a football around MetLife Field for the New York Jets on Sundays.
To be honest, I don’t know if I can think of a more American thing than that?
Okay, being serious, I don’t have any issues with Rodgers personally or his politics or anything of that nature. If he wants to support Kennedy Jr. in the election, then fine. It really shouldn’t matter.
Moreover, I must admit that Rodgers has been one of my favorite quarterbacks (for his style of play) over the last 18 or so years, and his personality is rather unique and interesting to listen to in my humble opinion. Do I agree with him on everything? Absolutely not! But does what he says or thinks off the field cloud how I view him on it? Absolutely not!
I just really don’t care…until it gets to the point where he’s actively hurting the Jets.
Now, I’m not a Jets fan and most definitely never will be (Pats fan here), but I fully supported Rodgers when he complained about the management and dressing room leaks from the Jets last season and essentially said it was emblematic as to why the Jets have not won a Super Bowl since 1969. And he was correct in saying so as you can’t win if your team is always leaking internal stories to the media and drawing unnecessary attention to yourself.
But how is this any different than leaking a story? How is, and I’m assuming on this part for Rodgers himself has not come out and openly addressed the rumors (but has showed support for Kennedy Jr. in the past), being interested in the Vice President office of a major political candidate’s bid removing the noise and distraction of non-football stories around the Jets?
I’m sorry, but it really seems like Rodgers only cares for himself and absolutely NOTHING for the Jets organization if this story about him and the Vice Presidency nominee is true. The Jets gave up high end draft picks, brought in players and coaches Aaron Rodgers wanted, gave him a huge contract extension, and stuck by him during his injury rehab. And what has Rodgers given the Jets so far? 4 snaps.
Just 4 snaps on the football field.
And now, if this story is true, those 4 snaps might be the only plays Rodgers gives to the Jets…
